In anticipation for Wealthy Affiliate’s Black Friday BIG SALE, I thought I’d write this short little post about some of the trials and tribulations of becoming an affiliate marketer. One bit of advice, right off the top, don’t follow my lead!
Why?
Well, here’s the thing. In order for you to get this business off the ground and moving in the right direction, you really do have to focus on it and be as consistent as you can in terms of how often you can write and publish an article about your site’s niche. And, as I’m sure many of you have noticed by now, I am soooo not consistent.
Although my initial goal was to publish an article at least three times a week, and I should be publishing a post at least twice a week, I find myself struggling to publish even once a week on a consistent basis.
And, yes, I absolutely apologize.
Yes, I made a commitment to myself, and yes, I spend a lot of time reading and consuming information, but I do admit, I don’t spend as much time as I should on writing content. And, that’s a BIG “no-no.”
In my own defense, however, I do have to tell you that I do have distractions to deal with… aka: family…. ahem… So, it’s not like I’m not trying… I am!
But, you know, Moms come first, and my mom will always come first, no matter what. So, with that stated, I would like to notify my readers about what “may” happen in the near future.
The Family Home is Up for Sale!
Yes, my mom wants to sell the two family house in Massachusetts, and we both want to move to … wait for it…. FLORIDA – the Sunshine State! ..or was it the “hanging chad” state… um.. ok, that’s a whole other post…
So, seeing that I’m still a Licensed Real Estate Broker, and I am listing this property, this is my major “distraction” as of late. This major distraction will continue for some time – as winter is not a very good time to sell a home in New England, not to mention the fact that we have a lot of furniture and “things” to auction and/or sell off as we do not wish to bring everything with us. This house has been in our family for over 70 years, and there is just a lot of “stuff!”
So, yes, this is a major distraction, it will be time-consuming, and when the house sells, then I’ll be under some major crunch time. We have to whittle down the clothes, omg! THE CLOTHES! …weed out the heavy winter clothing, donate to the battered women’s shelter, donate, trash-out, and/or make some major preparations on moving what’s left, coordinate the move to storage in Florida, get the car all ready for the long drive, throw what’s left in the car, and get ready to travel with my mom and my kitty! This is a major undertaking, to say the least… In other words, when the house does sell, I won’t be spending any time on my blog or my other sites… for a while…
This is also why I’m telling you – don’t follow my time-line at all for starting to work and earn an income from home. Between all my injuries, physical therapy sessions, and ongoing family distractions, I am not a good example in terms of earnings and the expected earning time-line.
For some, it took only a month or two, for some others, it took less than six months, and for some others, it took about a year. And, yes, there really are Affiliate Marketers who are generating well over six figures a year. Although I have earned an income thus far, I am not where I should be in terms of earnings, and this is why you really can’t, or shouldn’t, gauge your success on what others have done or are doing. And, this is also why no-one can really answer the question “when will (I) begin to earn an income from Affiliate Marketing?” The true answer is “it depends.” It depends on how often you’ll research, it depends on how often you write, it depends on whether you work a full or part-time job, it depends on your family obligations, and yes, it depends on your “distractions.”
So, while thinking about “my distractions,” I have come across two very good articles here at Wealthy Affiliate that I’d like to share with those of you who are waiting for WA’s Black Friday Event and who want to make a commitment to themselves to build a business, work at home, and achieve financial freedom. These are two of my “keepers,” where I have them tagged inside Wealthy Affiliate.
Here is one post written by one of the founders of Wealthy Affiliate. In this post, Kyle talks about his first sale.
The other is a major resource with many links. It was written by one of our members, Stu, and I agree, it’s a “must read for beginners.”
I hope you enjoy these two posts, and if you have any questions, please feel free to post them below or you can contact me on my Wealthy Affiliate profile page.
If you are thinking about becoming an Affiliate Marketer, I do hope you give Wealthy Affiliate a try and accept the two free web-sites provided during the trial.
