Congratulations! You’ve decided to join the 21st Century and realized that you should probably learn this stuff after all. Am I right?
Ok, well, it’s GREAT that you’re here, let’s get into it and discuss the basic “How to’s” of Marketing A Small Business Online.
Build A Blog!
Yes, that’s what I said. First, and foremost, please get it out of your head that this is at all hard to do. Things have changed dramatically, and gone are the days of paying “web-site developers” huge sums of money to “design” a web-site for your small business. Prior to me learning this stuff, I can remember one developer who told me my site was going to cost about $40,000, to which I replied, “Um, thanks, but… I think I’m all set…”
Eventually, I sat down and put in the time and effort to teach myself how to code and build web-sites. Unfortunately, after doing that, some group of “Official Nerds” decided to change what I just learned and determined that those who build websites should now learn and include something called “CSS” Style Sheets. So, in short, back behind the eight-ball – I went… Not everything changed, a portion of the basic html still works, but now web-developers were expected to learn this new updated CSS style-sheet method.
I didn’t obsess, I kept doing what I was doing, and I began building sites on a host provider who offered the use of templates. In fact, they still do, but, compared to WordPress sites that are widely available today, these templates are considered to be quite ugly. In addition, they are not responsive, they don’t flex and re-size with the end-user’s device. But, for a while, I continued to use the templates. They served the purpose just fine. We were still at the beginning of the World Wide Web, and the initial steps of the great wide open internet – the “Information – Super Highway!” I knew I had to do something different, eventually, but I just kept putting it off. I was in Real Estate at that time and focused on helping homeowners for a while… So, I stayed with the “easy to use” templates while WordPress grew and became better and better.
In fact, I do remember when “WordPress” originally came on the scene. I remember reading about it being an open source code project that allowed users to build web-sites without necessarily learning the html code. But, I figured I’d wait a little longer as more time would allow them time to work out all the kinks. Obviously, they have, and I have since jumped on the WordPress bandwagon. WordPress is not only here to stay, it couldn’t be easier for newbies to get a site up and running in less time than you could imagine. Hence, the main subject of today’s article.
How To: Marketing A Small Business Online
The absolute best way to market a small business online today is through the use of a blog site, and linking that site to various social media outlets.

This is something that can easily be done by newbies or those who have some of the basics skills needed (point, type, and click). This is not hard, and no, it won’t cost you anywhere near 40K for a site. In fact, one method you could use is completely free, and you can even build a website in less than 30 seconds. Building A Blog
By building a blog, not only will your be able to enjoy a web presence, you have the ability to interact with your customers. You don’t have to, of course, but, if you did, Google and other major search engines would take notice. An authoritative site that is updating and interacting with people often would help your search engine rankings, and you could literally dominate your industry in your locale. So, for instance, if you were a local Dentist, and named your site “DentistInChelmsford.com,” or “DrDentalChelmsfordMA.com,” and you then made your site an interactive blog site, you have the ability to dominate local searches for dental services in the Chelmsford, MA area. The same goes for Attorneys, Contractors, Plumbers, Roofers, Landscapers, and the list goes on and on….

Have spent the last year learning how to market my little carpet cleaning business online. A while back I started to realize that I needed to build my online presence in my town to compete in the future. I got my site built pretty easily and it looks great. It’s here Paso Robles Carpet Cleaning and now I’m learning the things I gotta do to help it appear on Google search results. Nowadays you just have to have a website. Even for something like carpet cleaning.

Hi Tom,
Yes, it is much easier than people think. Many people think they need to hire an outside firm, but that is not the case. Not anymore anyway. Small business owners would be wise to get their site up, and, with the help of the members of Wealthy Affiliate, they can do this for much less cost too. Business owners can design their site, get it hosted, and get help whenever they need it – all for just $49 a month. It’s really a no-brainer. Thank you or your visit!
